ISAVT 4th Edition

The 4th International Symposium on Advanced Vehicle Technology took place at the Kanagawa Institute of Technology in Japan on September 4th – 6th, 2019

The 4th International Symposium on Advanced Vehicle Technology (ISAVT2019) took place at the Kanagawa Institute of Technology in Japan on September 4th – 6th, 2019. It offered academic researchers a unique opportunity to exchange and discuss advances and developments in future automotive technology. And how the automotive industry affects people and society as a whole.

More than 100 participants from universities, research institutes, vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and service providers intensively talked about the challenges and possible solutions for the future.

26 speakers with six top class key note speakers (Prof. Masato Abe/KAIT, Rolf Adomat/Continental, Akio Kinoshita/HORIBA, Prof. Kyong Su Yi/Seoul National University, Dr. Houssem Abdellatif/TÜV SÜD and Kazuto Hirose/NVIDIA presented high-quality and meaningful content in the different research areas.

In the panel discussion with Prof. Bernhard Schick (University of Applied Sciences Kempten), Dr. Houssem Abdellatif (TÜV SÜD), Kazuto Hirose (NVIDIA, Prof. Pongsathorn Raksincharoensak (Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology) and Prof. Hideo Inoue (KAIT), moderated by Kazuhiko Hanaya (Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC), it became clear that automated driving is not only about new technologies and novelties.  Technology also must be accepted and used by people. It has to contribute to the benefits for consumers and society in terms of safety, comfort and fun. At the accompanying exhibition of research exhibits and technology demonstrators, there were more opportunities to discuss these issues.

A special thank you went to KAIT (Prof. Inoue & Team) for the perfectly organized event, the unforgettable time as well as the great discussions and networking. The traditional Japanese evening event was a special experience for the participants. Many thanks also to all presenters for the great presentations and to the sponsors TÜV SÜD, Michelin, dSPACE, Sekisui and IPG.

The first ISAVT was held at Nihon University, Japan in 2016, bringing together five automotive research institutes from Japan, the U.S.A. and Korea. In 2017, it was held at Mississippi State University (U.S.A.) and in 2018 at University of Applied Sciences Kempten (Germany). The fourth ISAVT was now held in Atsugi, Japan at Kanagawa Institute of Technology, expanding now to 11 participating universities. The main vehicle and traffic research areas are at the centre of attention:

  • Automated Driving and ADAS
  • Human Factor, HMI, Ergonomics and Human Modelling
  • Vehicle Dynamics & Controls
  • Future Powertrain Technologies
  • Transportation Engineering
  • Material Sciences

All universities and research institutions active in the same field of research are welcome to join the international ISAVT network.

With ISAVT the members want to build up a rich and vibrant community and to promote the cooperation of international research institutions. Our aim is to establish and expand joint research activities, to build networks, to give young researchers the opportunity to exchange information regularly and to promote future cooperation with industry.
