Experience, Feel and Evaluate: at the practical seminar Feel to be driven, engineers change their perspective
Kempten/Illertissen. At the practical seminar on September 23rd and 24th engineers have taken up the challenge of looking at driving dynamics and comfort, with a special focus on driver assistance systems, using subjective and objective evaluation methods.
The automobile is in a stage of massive transformation: morphing from a means of transportation with lifestyle characteristics into a connected living space and comfortable mobility medium. Over the past decades, this change has led to rapid progress in the industry. Whether it is the rising importance of vehicle energy efficiency, the development of new driver assistance systems or the increasing importance of electric mobility – further training is a core topic for many companies in the automotive sector. This applies especially to professions that underlie the technological, innovative change or even foster it.
The Feel to be driven seminar offers engineers and vehicle enthusiasts a broad spectrum of theoretical and practical knowledge in experiencing, feeling and evaluating driver assistance systems. The engineer slips into the role of the customer.
On the first day of the seminar, the participants were given the tools for subjective and objective evaluation of different driver assistance systems by the seminar leaders Dieter Scharpe and Prof. Bernhard Schick. Equipped on this, it passed to the practical part.
On public roads, from federal roads to motorways and on parking lots, the theory taught for the evaluation of long-distance assistance systems (LKAS), lateral assistance systems (ACC) and assisted and automated parking (PMA) of vehicles was immediately put into practice.
According to the motto “Enjoy your relaxing lounge”, the engineers were able to perceive driver assistance systems from a different perspective with the help of the evaluation matrix.
“The holistic approach when developing a concept is crucial to ensure customer acceptance,” explains Seda Aydogdu, project engineer at MdynamiX.
As a special highlight of the seminar, which was held for the fourth time already, the participants had the opportunity to test the driving behaviour of a particularly large variety of current benchmark vehicles in direct comparison. In addition to the Tesla Model 3, the models Mercedes Benz GLE, VW Tiguan, Peugeot 508 SW, BMW 540xi and an Audi Q5 were also available. The high driving share of 60 percent, divided into three practical sessions, convinced the seminar participants.
